Approximately 25% of babies with CHD have a critical form of CHD. These infants will need surgery or other treatment within the first year of their life. W O M E N W H O A R E O B E S E , H AV E D I A B E T E S, O R S M O K E D U R I N G P R E G N A N C Y I N C R E A S E T H E I R C H A N C E S are generally unknown, however studies have shown that of having a baby born with a heart defect. 25% T H E C A U S E S O F C H Ds C O N G E N I T A L H E A R T D E F E C T S are the most common type of birth defect.
