he term congenital heart disease
or congenital heart defect (CHD)
refers to a large number of conditions
in which the heart does not develop
normally before birth.
Approximately 25% of babies with CHD
have a critical form of CHD. These infants
will need surgery or other treatment
within the first year of their life.
