An estimated 250,000 women in the United States are diagnosed each year. Monthly self-examinations and regular mammograms help in early detection. Breast Cancer Awareness month reminds women to take the necessary steps to pre- vent this disease. Researchers and physicians across the Texas Medical Center are working to lower fatality rates related to breast cancer through genetic testing, hormone thera- pies and surgical procedures.
