According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 3.5 million Americans have been diagnosed with this cognitive disorder. Autism spectrum disorder is a develop- mental disability that affects one in every 68 children born in the United States. Because it is a spectrum, individuals with autism can display several of the behaviors associated with the disorder or only a few, depending on the severity of their diagnosis. Throughout the month of April, the Autism Society aims to encourage awareness and education of the disorder, promote inclusion, and ensure that each person with autism is given the opportu- nity to achieve the highest quality of life. 7 22 28-30 22 Runners participate in the Donate Life Texas 2nd Chance Run.
