According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the leading causes of death for American men are heart disease, cancer and unintentional injuries caused by accidents. Heart disease, which can be highly preventable with a healthy diet and active lifestyle, is the no. 1 killer of men. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men after skin cancers. In observance of Men's Health Month, the Texas Medical Center encourages all men, and parents of boys younger than 18, to schedule regular health screenings and to seek medical advice when appropriate.
